Why this blog exists…

If you’re reading this, you’ve probably already heard me talk about Kiva, the organization I’ll be working for starting in February.  If you want to read more about it, all the links on the right will help you get started.   “Kiva News” tells you what’s going on with the organization and in the broader world of microfinance.  “Kiva Fellows Blog,” to which I will be contributing regularly once out in the field, is more of a day-in-the-life type blog, giving Kiva’s supporters access to more information about what is going on in the field.  The fellows are placed all over the world, so there is never a shortage of fascinating stories to be shared.

The video below, a brief interview with Kiva’s founders Matt and Jessica Flannery, tells the story of how Kiva started.  Matt and Jessica are clearly an exceptional and inspirational pair but I think the video also serves as a reminder that, especially with the help of the internet, everday people with great ideas can do incredible things.
